Project description | Analysis of alphabetical index cards of the foreigners’ police. The National Archives in Brussels holds more than 154,000 index cards that provide access to individual files on foreigners opened from 1830 to 1890. The files are preserved at theState Archives and were tranferred there in 1948; they cover about 286 linear metres, are arranged chronologically by opening date and searchable by the name of each immigrant. The system of alphabetically sorted index cards is thus the key to finding a person's individual file. |
